Artwork I've Created: Stormy Ocean Wave Painting

Stormy Ocean Wave Painting: Part One, Coudy Sky

Today I'd like to show you this painting I created, and explain how I did it. The first thing I'd like to explain is how I created the sky. First, I drew the horizon line. Then, I took some grey and painted in the darker parts of the sky. After that, I added some dark grey on top of the original grey. When painting the dark grey, I made sure to keep my brush loose in my hand to get the correct shape of the clouds.

At this point, I thought my sky was too light. So I mixed some light grey with water, and glazed over the whole sky with that. Then I added a little bit of black to the darker period of the clouds. I added some white over that, to highlight the tops of the clouds.

After that, I glazed over the sky with more watery dark grey. Then I went over the darks of my clouds with a lighter grey than before. Then I highlighted the whites a but more. This was my finished sky.
